Martin Scorsese

It took 26 years, six directing nominations and two screenplay nominations, but Martin Scorsese finally has his Oscar.

Righting an injustice that had swelled with each snub of his illustrious career, on Sunday the Academy honored him with the best-directing Oscar for "The Departed."

And I thought he was going to win for Best Voice in an Animated Film for Shark Tale...

The History of Computer Role-Playing Games

The History of Computer Role-Playing Games Part 1: The Early Years (1980-1983)

Welcome, brave adventurer, to the first of my in-depth feature articles exploring the history of our favorite computer game genre: The Computer Role-Playing Game, or the CRPG. For many avid gamers, the CRPG is the perfect storm of gameplay, story, and strategy. Whether we're talking about a randomized "dungeon crawler" like Rogue or a story-driven game like Betrayal in Krondor, a click-fest like Diablo or a stat-crunching Pool of Radiance, the CRPG has always enjoyed a tremendous appeal.

Well, it really dates me but those were my formative RPG years too... And until now, I roam the fields of imagination although roaming these fields does entail a monthly subscription cost... *sigh*

Coca-Cola completes purchase of Philippines bottler

Coca-Cola purchased the 65 percent stake in Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines Inc. from San Miguel, Southeast Asia's largest food and drinks group. Coca-Cola said it now has full ownership of CCBPI...

With the entry of non carbonated bottled drinks like C2 Iced Tea, things just went down for Coca Cola here in the Philippines.

Play-Asia

Play-Asia.com was established in November 2002 and is a leading online retailer providing video games, DVDs, music CDs, gadgets and toys on a global scale. We are located in Hong Kong, the heart of Asia's entertainment electronic center (Japan - Taiwan - Korea – China) and we offer competitive prices and fast delivery times.

I usually don't endorse commercial websites. But being in the Philippines and waiting for so long for games like World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade to be made available here can be downright frustrating. Not to mention the bloated prices. Try this site on for size.

Oh and *uhurm* still no news on World of Warcraft Philippines.

Fifteen geek movies to see before you die

Geeks and movies go together quite nicely. I've been thinking about films that reflect tech and geek culture, and have pulled together a list of 15 movies that should probably be on any geek's must-see list.

These are in no particular order

Movie lists! I can't get enough of them! Go check it out!

I've seen all of them more than three times so I guess that makes me a geek, right?

I wonder if there's a Geek Movie list of Philippine movies... hehehe... i said movies twice...

Confidential Microsoft Emails Posted Online

Jim Allchin, former Co-President, Platforms & Services Division of Microsoft, wrote those words to Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer on January 7. Jim Allchin retired from Microsoft as of Jan. 30, 2007 – the day on which Microsoft officially released the Windows Vista operating system to consumers.

I wonder if Jim now bought a Mac after retiring.

Microsoft Windows Vista Keys Incompatible

In the past, early adopters of new Windows versions have had some small hurdles to overcome. Such hurdles may be software incompatibility, or lack of driver support. These sorts of things are almost expected with each new Windows launch. But what would you do if you bought Windows Vista and your product key didn’t work? What if Microsoft had no solution and was unwilling to issue you a new key?

Microsoft better correct this soon. They seem to be ignoring these brave users who decided to switch operating systems this early.

I wonder how the product support of Microsoft would be like here in the Philippines?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Release Date

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling, the seventh and final book in the best-selling series, has been scheduled for release at 12:01 a.m. on July 21, 2007, it was announced today by Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company.

In making the announcement, Lisa Holton, President of Scholastic Children’s Books said, “We are thrilled to announce the publication date of the seventh installment in this remarkable series. We join J.K. Rowling’s millions of readers – young and old, veterans and newcomers – in anticipating what lies ahead.”

Well, I guess this is where Harry Potter finds out that Voldemort has actually transferred all his powers to him for later retrie.... oh wait.. did I spoil it?

Don't worry, I don't know what I'm talking about anyway. hehehe

Is it going to be a global launch? I remember when Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix came out, a lot of Philippine fans were disappointed.

It seemed, there were enough books around that pre-ordering it here in the Philippines was unnecessary. And it turned out that the ones who preordered had to wait longer since they have to undergo extra processing steps to get the book instead of just picking it off the shelf and paying for it.

Me? I'm just going to wait for the movie to come out.

Should we give Microsoft Windows Vista a chance?

Microsoft is billing Vista as making it ``easier, safer and more fun'' to use your PC. Nobody can be sure that Vista delivers on this until it's battle-tested in the real world, but early tests by millions of guinea pigs so far suggests Vista meets its goals. It's the first real makeover of Microsoft's Windows operating system for computers since Windows XP debuted in 2001...

Well, Microsoft Windows Vista is also launching here in the Philippines.. But given the price, P25,988 it's too expensive to switch to this new operating system. I doubt there'll be a rush. Specially when there's still a lot of Windows 98 computers still chugging along here in the Philippines.

As for me, Windows Vista is still far off in the horizon. I'm still more than content with my Windows XP. Microsoft Windows XP rocks big time. I haven't had a crash since I used it.

Just don't mention Windows ME to me. I still have nightmares about that.
