I guess Plinky Recto would be doing the round of talk shows now. Oprah Winfrey would be the best course though. Oh wait... Oprah is in the US.

It'll be Boy Abunda and his magic mirror then.

Berenstain Bears co-creator dead

"...Stan Berenstain, who with his wife created the popular children's books about the Berenstain Bears, has died.

He was 82 and lived in Bucks County. He died in Pennsylvania on Saturday, said Audra Boltion, a spokeswoman for HarperCollins Children's Books in New York.

In more than 200 books, the Berenstain Bears, written and illustrated by Stan and Jan Berenstain, helped children for 40 years cope with trips to the dentist, eating junk food and cleaning their messy rooms..."
I remember the very first book that i liked was the Berenstain Bears. Oh and that Ellery Queen Mystery Activity Book. Too bad that I never got to buy, own, or read those two. The Berenstein Bears Book I saw over at the old Bricktown which is now Glorietta 4. I think the name of the bookstore was Bookpage or something. And the Ellery Queen Actvity Book I saw at a shop in Harrison Plaza. It was beside that Six Million Dollar Man Action Figure I also wanted. I even wrote Santa Claus for both books. I guess he never got the letter.

Hmmm... you think my life would have been different if I got those two books?

Plinky Recto, General Jarque, and The Lawyer

Who knew?

I mean, my stats for yesterday went up 6 times! I had the biggest number of hits yesterday. The biggest! I should be taking pilates at this point.

All this because of the Plinky Recto and her ex-boyfriend brouhaha. General Jarque must be smiling today.

I never knew that many people want to know who Plinky Recto's ex-boyfriend is. Plinky Recto's case is supported by Gabriella. Let's hope it pushes thru to the end.

To think, in this site, Plinky Recto just trounced Chx Alcala. Of course, in my opinion, Plinky Recto is much sexier and prettier than Chx Alcala. It must be all that Pilates. I guess Plinky's ex-boyfriend thinks otherwise...

Did I hear someone shout cosmetic surgery?

Cofibean: Make Poverty History

"...Disclaimer: Please don't make basa [read] my journal if you find this offensive. Go browse disneyland.com instead. Hope I made it clear. Now, if you still comment on my site, it only means one thing -- you are really one stupid bobo orc...."
Real funny site. If ever you want to imagine how well to do people talk and act in a third world country, mozy on here. Oh and yes, the Philippines is a third world country. I mean, look at the number of churches we have. Anyway. back to the site, it's satire, I think but you should see how some people just get into it and lambast the guy for calling call center employees "stupid bobo orcs" or how he just fired his katutubo [native] secretary for being stupid.

Excerpt:
"...Starbucks is an evil corp so I think I need to change na. F@ck Starbs! They are crowded na by callcenter peeps that's been crowding makati na like cheap mushrooms. I hate them all, they are all sooo jologs [cheap]! I think I saw some of them crowding pa nga this ukay-ukay [bargain] store along Buendia right beside the katakot [scary] West of Ayala Building.

Hope they just all drop dead. They are crowding Makati na! It's like kadire na [yucky] to work here in Makati because of the callcenter skwakkwaks [squatters, poor ] hanging around...."

We filipinos are real sensitive when it comes to criticism about our culture, country, and people. Just reading thru the comments, you get to see how oversensitive we get when it comes to this.

Warning though, not for those who get easily offended.

Plinky Recto's Ex-Boyfriend

"...This site is for those who want to follow her civil case against her [Plinky Recto] ex-partner whom she just mentioned in several interviews as a prominent lawyer, a very influential one...."
So I just got back from Tagaytay. And the first thing my mom asks me as soon as I got out the car is to look for Plinky Recto's boyfriend. Ooops.. sorry, Plinky Recto's ex-boyfriend who is supposed to be a very influential lawyer. I wonder if Plinky still does her Pilates classes amidst all of this.

So influential is Plinky's ex, he was allegedly one of the reasons General Jarque (who had that imigration snafu in Texas) joined the communists or something like that. Anyway for the clueless, Plinky Recto is a showbiz personality, Pilates instructor and sister of a Philippine Senator. She came out on The Buzz and said that she is filing a civil case against her ex-boyfriend-gangster-landgrabber for domestic violence. The so called Lawyer-gangster-landgrabber is also the father of Plinky Recto's one year old son.

Anyway, I stumbled upon this site that is monitoring the civil case. To those looking for clues on who Plinky Recto's ex-boyfriend is, look no further just click the link below. Read the message boards as Plinky's ex boyfriend is constantly mentioned there. Oh and here is Plinky Recto's Official Site although that site focuses more on her Pilates.

Oh and isn't it really weird that Plinky Recto has been under the limelight for so long and the moment she get's picked up by The Buzz, she's the content of conversation everywhere.

According to my mom, Plinky's ex-boyfriend is so influential that even Kris Aquino shut her usually big mouth. What's up with that? Maybe she needs Pilates lessons from Plinky...

Phillip Seymour Hoffman is Capote

"...Phillip Seymour Hoffman is incredible in the new film Capote, in which he dramatizes the title character's visit to a small town to write what would become "In Cold Blood", the world's first non-fiction crime novel..."
Phillip Seymour Hoffman is Capote, Truman Capote.

He was way cool in Twister and Red Dragon. He was way past cool in Boogie Nights.

Philippines wins special award in an international science fair

“Although they did not get the top prize, a team of high school seniors from the Philippines won a special award for their entry about a futuristic floating city populated by robots in an international science fair, besting entries from 13 other countries...
"...We imagined that the world by that time would have extreme temperatures … all volcanoes have erupted and in that setting, robots would be dominant,” said Javier, a physics teacher. “The teams were given five minutes to explain their projects. And we Filipinos are really good in English so that’s the edge that we had from the others. They said the world stopped when we explained....”

Du bist Deutschland - You Are Germany

Do we have these laws here in the Philippines?

It's a real slow night.

So, let me tell you what's been bugging me these past few weeks.

Laws.

Yup. Philippine Laws. I'm not sure if these are already in place but not really followed or that I'm just as ignorant as my dog.

1. A law that stipulates that all income by minors should be put in a bank or trust fund until the minor reaches legal age. We have a lot of parents pushing their kids into showbiz only to use the money for themselves.

2. Minors in showbiz (or any biz) can only work til 4pm.

3. No minors loitering the streets after 8pm. I work nights and at one am, I still see kids selling flowers and whatnots. I guess there is a law about this but not really implemented.

4. Electric companies and Water Companies cannot cut off their services to a home without a court appointed order. This is a long shot.

5. Schools cannot bar students from taking tests or withold any of their services thruout the school year. I have heard stories from officemates how their kids are put to shame during periodical tests when they are asked to leave the room since they haven't paid their tuition. My kids has had close shaves with this one.

Ok. These are just five laws but would do a world of good to a lot of people out there. I mean, with prices soaring and income crashing, government should at least protect us.

Up all night, good thing I didn't have a mallet...

I've been up all night trying to fix up the site for those whose screen resolution is still 800x600. There might be a few minor changes but it's all for the better. Firefox seems to cooperate but that dang blasted Internet Explorer is just one tough mama.

To those still using 800x600 resolution, if possible go 1024x768.

For IE users, please.

Pretty please.

Should A-List Girls Marry for Love?

So there’s this terrific woman you know living in New York. She’s fun, attractive, smart and has a great job … and is dating a bartender, a waiter or someone altogether unemployed. Some might say she’s “settling,” to use the favored relationship parlance of today. But what if she’s actually a pioneer...
I see no problem with women dating down. I mean, in a way, it's the guy who's dating up.

GMA Google bombed

...THE GOOGLE bomb directed at the website of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo spokesperson has been redirected recently to a blog of young Filipinos activists...
The terms in question are listed below with it's english definition and use in taglish (a sentence with mixed english and tagalog words).

pekeng pangulo - (fake president)
Ang Pekeng Pangulo ay pequeno.
The fake president is small

sinungaling (liar)
Saan nanggaling ang sinungaling?
Where did the liar go?

sira-ulo (lunatic or fool but literally it means broken (sira) head (ulo))
Si Raul O! Sira ulo talaga yan!
It's Raul! He's really crazy.

bugaw (pimp)
Bumulakaw ang kinilaw na lugaw ng bugaw
I don't know what that means but it sure rhymes!

bangungot ng bayan (nation's nightmare)
Binunot ang bangungot habang kinukotkot

Now let's all use all those words in one tagalog sentence.

Sinungaling ang pekeng pangulo ng tawagin niya na bugaw at bangungot ng bayan ang sira ulo.
The fake president lied by calling the lunatic a pimp and a nightmare.

Off topic but this one is a classic
Bababa ba?
Bababa.

Going down?

Babaha ba?
Babaha.

Is it going to flood?
It'll flood.

The Republic of The Philippines

"...Philippines, Republic of the (in Filipino, Republika ng Pilipinas), island republic in the western Pacific Ocean, within the Malay Archipelago, an island grouping that extends southward to include Indonesia and Malaysia. The Philippines comprises more than 7,100 islands, but the 11 largest islands form most of the country’s land area. The mountainous terrain includes many active volcanoes. The location of the Philippines just north of the equator gives the country a moderate tropical climate suited for the cultivation of export crops such as coconuts and pineapples. Agriculture has long formed the backbone of the economy. After World War II (1939-1945) the Philippines was one of the first nations of Southeast Asia to try to industrialize its economy. It subsequently lagged behind most of its Asian neighbors in economic development. Manila, located on east central Luzon Island, is the national capital and largest city. The republic’s cultural institutions, industries, and federal government are concentrated in this rapidly growing metropolitan area...."

The Pope Wears Prada; adores Gucci

"...Known to many as a "bit of a clotheshorse," the Pope has a taste for Prada shoes and Gucci sunglasses... Pope Benedict ditched long-time tailor (Annibale Gammarelli), whose firm has been serving the Vatican since 1792.

...In addition to designer sunglasses, the Pope has favored padded quilt jackets, jumpsuits, baseball caps...."
Prada. Gucci. You think he wears Calvin Klein Underwear?

Oh and Jumpsuits?

Jumpsuits?

A Pope in Gucci sunglasses, red Prada shoes... in a jumpsuit...

Imagine that.

Akira Kurosawa

"...Kurosawa is one of the most accessible of the ‘classical’ or ‘great foreign’ directors. His films are cool and his star is charismatic. Jap-o-philes and anime fans make an easy transition to his films. Many times I have seen YOJIMBO next to TENCHI MUYO on the DVD shelf.

And his films hold up very well. A lot of them are similar to Westerns and some are based on Shakespeare -- so they are not too alienating to American audiences. The samurai heroes of his films are like the heroes of westerns or the chivalrous knights of Europe. Some critics complained that Kurosawa’s films were too Western -- his greatest influence being director John Ford.

But his storytelling ability resonates today. Despite the slow pace of several of his films and their lengthy running times, they are easy to watch and I don’t find them as boring or dragging as some other older or foreign films. He always keeps you engaged....
Akira Kurosawa. I remember my first Kurosawa film was Kagemusha. Kurosawa was my first contact with Japanese films. Well, there were those old Watari and anime series. Who can forget Lone Wolf and Cub? But Kurosawa just opened up the whole jap-film-pop thing for me. Kagemusha... That brings up memories... Oh and don't get me started with The Seven Samurai.

Anyway, go check out the site's archives for Part 2 of the article...

EDDIE in the eyes of a true mark

"...My reaction was so desperate—the kind reserved for a family emergency—that my girlfriend quickly ran into the room to find out what had upset me so much. No, Eddy wasn’t family. Not even close. And despite my experiences in the business, I never crossed paths with Eddy; I didn’t know him personally. But I think most wrestling fans — the ones who followed his career from ECW to his frustrating though often-entertaining stint in WCW to his fall and ultimate redemption in WWE — sure felt like we knew Eddy.

Maybe it was because Guerrero’s genuine passion for the business shined through in his performances, and we all loved him for it. All I know is I’m torn up about Eddy Guerrero’s passing, and for that, I almost feel selfish. We all know what Eddy meant to us as a performer, but my heart goes out to his family, and friends like Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho and Dean Malenko, all of whom must be in so much pain right now...
From someone who is part of the business and has love for it, this article does justice to the memory of Eddie Guerrero

Ok. Let me get this straight, Tara Reid bans photos on her birthday party.
So this means no one can take pictures.

She even had t-shirts made with that message.

Tara Reid would fit very nicely in Philippine Showbiz. Heck! She can even become a newscaster senator mayor well respected person here.

Planning to Play a Sony Music CD in your PC? Read this...

"Sony began experimenting in November 2005 with new Digital Rights Management (DRM) software on their music CDs. While created to prevent pirating of the music they sell, the software appears to have unintended negative consequences for those whose computers it is installed in. Sony installs a system-level application that effectively hides all file names from the user with specific filenames. These files are still present on the system and can be run normally, however any mention of their presence on the system is hidden from the user. This could allow authors of malicious software to use Sony's DRM software to hide their trojan horses on your computer...."

The Philippines Doesn't Google. The Philippines Yahoo!

Eveyone uses Google to search. Everyone knows that. You need to know something, you google it. You don't Yahoo! it. You google it.

Except in the Philippines.

Here, most everyone uses Yahoo. 12.1% of visitors referred to this site by a search engine, was referred by Google. Can you guess how many percent used Yahoo? 86.3%. I'm not sure but I'm assuming that most visitors to my site are local. Some are looking for the latest chx nude pics, some researching about famous Philippine writers, and some even about Yellow Cab Pizza. Anyway, my point is most of them yahooed it.

I think I know why.

Just like Friendster, most everyone here uses Yahoo Messenger. And I mean everyone. I kid you not but in my office, people just YM each other. Even if they're just two desks away. And that's not an isolated thing. I have a feeling most offices are like that.

And with Yahoo Messenger, it's all but natural to use Yahoo Mail. And yes, even use Yahoo to search the web.

One big reason for the success of Yahoo Messenger (and Yahoo Mail) is its ability to send SMS messages to mobile phones. That by itself, in my opinion is why Yahoo works here. There are standalone apps that does this but Yahoo has it integrated into YM.

Not to diss Yahoo. But I'm a Google fanatic. From GMail to Picasa to Google Desktop, to Google Earth, and to most of all, Blogger. I'm Google all the way. I don't know if Google has it's eyes here. But if Google is, I'm rooting for them. It'll be a real tough challenge but I'm rooting for Google. I kid you not when I say that Google is a very little David if it wants to fight mighty mighty yahoo here.

Red-faced police apologize, say captured man not Sahiron

This is so funny, it's pitiful
...their detained suspect was not the feared militant, known as the one-armed bandit...It was unclear if the unidentified man has, like Sahiron, only one arm."
Hmmm... It's so funny if the guy has two arms. I have a feeling, no, I am rooting that the guy has two arms.

Maybe right now, at this moment, his being placed in a room so they can cut off his arm to save face. But what if they cut off the wrong arm?

ADDITIONAL:

The guy has one arm! And looks like him too. What are the chances? Too bad he wasn't interviewed and I haven't seen clips of him to prove it. *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink* Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

Philippine Call Centers: Who'll Answer Tomorrow?

I'll try and keep this pithy.

Call Centers have been a great help here in the Philippines. It has provided jobs and opportunities to filipinos everywhere. The number one qualification is that one has to communicate very well in English. And we are very well qualified in that field. Big PC giant Dell has announced plans to set up a major call center here.

This boom has even affected other industries like fast food joints. Recently, Philippine burger giant, Jollibee, has started 24 hour operations to accomodate those early morning Philippine Call Center employees.

But when will the bubble burst? India, one of the top call center providers have moved on to other outsourced services like animation, financial and accounting analysis and even computer programming. It's a no brainer that one day, technology will be introduced that will make call centers obsolete. I remember in the early 1990s when computer encoding was a big thing (I used to work as an encoder) but with the advancement in OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology, that industry went by the wayside.

We should focus now at the long term and use the attention we're getting with our call centers to move on to other services like what India is doing. But in what field? I don't know, I'm just an average joe, but those smart guys in those swanky offices should at least be burning some gray matter to think of something. We have a tendency to just stick to the tried and true. We are just milking the call center phenomenon for what it's worth without thinking of the future. For us to be at the forefront, we should be at least one step ahead or alongside the others.

And honestly, I don't think our government can truly be of assistance. It's up to the private sector to have the common sense, the vision, and the drive to move forward.

ADDITIONAL:

Tim Stay of Call Center Script.Com expands on the topic. He says it more clearly than I could. Thanks Tim.

Chx Sexy Pics Hits

So far, this experiment over hits I'd get from people who want to see pics of Chx from Pinoy Big Brother is going pretty well. (Pinoy Big Brother is the Philippine version of the TV show.) Much more than I expected. And it seems that everyone wants to see pics of Chx Alcala in an inappropriate pose than Cassandra Ponti. I'd even surmise that sexy pictures of girls from the Philippines are at an all time high these days.

My number one post of all time which is so weird is the one about Chowking. It's been accessed more than a thousand times. Now what do you think would happen if I post someting about Pinoy Big Brother Chx Sexy Pics in Chowking? Or Chx gets naked in Chowking? Maybe even a real hot and sexy filipina teen in chowking?

Of course, it isn't true but then again...

Well, seems my popular post is now about about Philippine women of the night. Seems the old business is coming back in a big way.

Philippine senator joins blogosphere

"HOPING to keep his constituents updated about his activities, Philippine Senator Manuel Roxas, grandson of former Philippine President Manuel Roxas, has also opened his own blog...The blog is not, however, the official website of the Senator."
And according to the blog, "This blog shall not represent the official opinion of Senator Mar Roxas to any particular issue. Instead, please refer to Senator Mar Roxas official website.".

Hmmmm... it's his blog but not his official website. Since it's not his official website but it's his blog, anything written there (his blog) is not his official opinion.

Wow. Spoken like a true Philippine politician.

Oh and since it's his "official" blog, not his "official website", wouldn't it make more sense to just plug that blog in his official website? I'm sorry. I'm nitpicking. I do know it's not him writing in his blog. But why own it if he didn't write it?

Oh yeah... Philippine Politics. I forgot.

Stupid Customs man

"Gary Evano, acting Customs examiner at the Departure Operations Division of the premier airport, was arrested by Japanese authorities at the Narita International Airport last October 28 for illegal possession and transport of firearms and ammunition..."
Ok, this guy probably is looking for the death penalty.

I mean, he is a CUSTOMS EXAMINER. So he would know the rules and regulations about possesing firearms. What's his excuse? He thought that since he can do it here in the Philippines, he can do it anywhere?

I am going to totally freak if our government starts supporting this stupid stupid man.

Even prostituted women have rights, says solon

"Rosales pointed out that even prostituted women have rights...senators or prostitute[d women], must be protected against rape by the state..."
I may not be a smart person but wouldn't it be simplier to just use the word prostitute. It's exactly the same thing, right?

Oh and why does it sound so natural to group Philippine Senators and Philippine Prostitutes in one sentence. Don't they appear to sound so synonyumous?

Korean dish 'may cure bird flu'

"...Scientists at Seoul National University say they fed an extract of kimchi to 13 infected chickens - and a week later 11 of them had started recovering...."We found that the chickens recovered from bird flu, Newcastle disease and bronchitis. The birds' death rate fell, they were livelier and their stools became normal," said Professor Kang Sa-ouk...."
Kimchi might be a cure for bird flu...

One question though? Who the heck had the idea of feeding chickens Kimchi? What? One day a scientist woke up and said to himself, "I'm going to feed the chickens kimchi!"?

Pinoys prefer AIDS to condoms

"BETTER to have the deadly Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) than let condoms spoil sex.

This is just one of the reasons why more Pinoys are indulging in unprotected sex..."

Want to really see the state of Philippine journalism here in the ummm... Philippines? This report is so hilarious that it get's pitiful real quick. I mean it makes sense and all but the standard of this article is just so low I want to start a fund to bring this journalist and it's editors back to ummm... journalism class.

I originally posted some snippets but DANG! This one has to be relished as a whole. Go ahead! Read! Enjoy!

Ghost captured in CCTV

"Look very closely and you will see a mysterious ghostly figure. The video has been thoroughly analysed by experts but they have so far offered no explanation as to what it is..."
Well, it seems really believably alright. It's grainy at first but it get's clearer midway. Can't wait for the experts to really give out their opinions on this. Please let me know what you think.

Dancing With The Stars Of Scientology

"It is unclear if Travolta's wife and Cruise's fiancée had the chance to talk. If so, it is reasonable to assume that Ms. Preston would have pressed home the cult's central doctrine about childbirth - that mothers should not express pain while in labour for fear of traumatising the baby..."
Remember that scene in the third remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the one with Gabrielle Anwar in it?) where kids in a classroom showed their paintings and all were alike except for that one kid?

I guess that's how Katie Holmes feels right now.

Subic new haven for robbers

"SUBIC Bay Freeport — The rise in burglary cases here has alarmed investors and restaurant owners.

The latest victim was the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority- Treasury Department. Unidentified men broke into the SBMA building and carted away P 1.8 million in cash and checks over the weekend.... the loot was supposedto be deposited in a bank last Monday..."
Ummm... who would leave that much cash over the weekend? Over a million bucks and the office wasn't guarded? No primary suspects? Inside job?

Oh and lastly, was there a spate of government officials vacationing at Subic at the time?

Alanis and Ryan

Unlike the Angelina Jolie - Brad Pitt love thing, I never believed the Ryan Reynolds-Alanis Morissette romance thing until I saw this picture. But after seeing it, can anyone tell me what's wrong with the way Alanis looks? I mean she's... she's... she looks normal in an Ellen-from-Seinfeld kind of way.

Now isn't that ironic.

NBC Nightly News, free and online

"NBC News announced Monday that 'NBC Nightly News' will soon become the first and only network newscast to be offered free on the Internet in its entirety..."
NBC Nightly News only? What about all the other shows? I know, that's wishful thinking but then again, Christmas is just around the corner.

The Philippines Google Earth Tour!

"See the Philippines in Google Earth where you can do a helicopter tour of the Philippines courtesy of the Google Earth satellite images. You can zoom into the different places marked in the map..."
This is an uber cool way to check out some of the famous places in the Philippines.

Former President Cory Aquino awarded an award

"The following full page Announcement appeared in the major Manila newspapers today, in regards to former President Corazon Aquino's being awarded the David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Award..."
I really am ignorant with these sort of things but this is the first time I heard of the David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Award.

Maybe GMA will win the Rockyfellow Losing Leadership Award.

Sometimes I just kill myself...

Debbie Rowe Banned From Telling MJ's Kids She's Their Mother

"MICHAEL JACKSON's custody settlement with DEBBIE ROWE - the mother of two of his children - is so strict, she is reportedly forbidden from telling them she is their mother. ."
Maybe he plans on telling them that HE is their mother...

Pinoy Big Brother - Chx and Cass Pics

Hehehe...

It seems that in the Philippine Blogosphere, a definite way to draw hits to your site is to say something about Pinoy Big Brother specially PBB pics.

And it seems that Chx Alcala sexy pictures is the magic term. I'm even confused. Do I post it as Chx Alcala in the buff? Or Chix Alcala birthday suit? It's probably safe to just label it Pinoy Big Brother Chx pics. Looking about, a site seems to be getting it at the sweet spot. He's promising the Sam and Chx compromising pics if he gets a thousand unique hits.

Oh and are you looking for Cass pics from FHM? A site has links to Cassandra Ponti's pics prior to joining Big Brother. But in fairness, Cass' pictures are more raunchier albeit more professional looking. I'd even say it's Cass' pics that are more compromising than Chx Pix.

I wonder if Cass is going to freak when she finds out...

But honestly, I'd like to see more of Angelina Jolie and her tattoos...
